Central Oregon AAA American Legion Baseball
Pay to Play Fee: $1,000 (players who sell 3 advertising signs will have their fee reduced in half)
Open to Central Oregon players born in 2005 or later
Season Details - The 2024 season consists of approximately 40 games; 20 League games with 2 tournaments and potential State, Regional and World Series tournament play based on league standings.
League Details - The Central Oregon AAA Legion team will participate in the Oregon American Legion Region 4 League. The league game series format is 4 games; 2 double headers at each team's home field. Teams in the league are, Eugene Challengers, Grants Pass Nuggets, Klamath Falls Falcons, Medford Mustangs, Roseburg Doc Stewarts.
Regular Season Tournaments - Fairbanks, Alaska June 20-24th (travel dates 19th and 25th), Corvallis Tournament June 27-30th
AAA Tournament Details - The AAA tournament will be in Eugene, OR July 27th - 31st. The state winning team will move on to play in the regional tournament in Billings, MT August 6th - 11th. The world series tournament will be August 15th - 20th in Shelby, NC.
Coaches - Coaching staff have a combined more than 50 years of coaching experience.
Marc Horner - Former Redmond High School varsity head baseball coach, Horner has over 20 years of experience coaching experience at the college, high school and youth levels. Horner attended college and played baseball at Azusa Pacific University in California and Central Washington University.
Dave Williams - Williams is a 1988 graduate of Bend High school where he was a member of the 1987 state championship baseball team. From there he spent his college playing days in centerfield for the Oregon State Beavers playing four years under head coach Jack Riley. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Oregon State and then jumped into the high school game at Crescent Valley High School which ultimately led him back to Bend to coach at Mountain View High School for 13 years before stepping away after the 2010 season. Williams then spent the next 5 seasons as a volunteer assistant at his alma mater Bend high until moving into the athletic director position at the school. He is currently serving as the Athletic Director for Bend-La Pine Schools and is the head baseball coach at Caldera High School.
Steve Dietz - Coach Dietz has been a leader in high school baseball in Central Oregon, most recently holding coaching positions at both Redmond and Ridgeview High Schools. Dietz was an All-American 2nd baseman in his career and was drafted by the Detroit Tigers. He played at San Diego State University and returned to his alma mater to coach. He has also coached at the high school level in the San Diego area.
Home Field - The AAA team's home field is the turf field located at Redmond Rotary Community Fields at the David M. Jaqua Sports Complex in Redmond, Oregon.
Legion Baseball Player Fundraising Expectations - The direct costs of running the program for the season are over $15,000. In an effort to keep the pay to play fees and out of pocket expenses low, we are asking each player to strive to sell 3 signs. Players who sell 3 signs will receive a discount of 50% towards their player fees.
One new fence sign from a local business (these signs will be hung on the outfield fence for the Legion Baseball season, including the state championship tournament):
First year sponsorship cost: $500 (includes cost of the sign)
Each subsequent year cost: $300
